Message

To convey the essence of Science we decided to tell a story about a girl who is very curious about the Moon and can’t quite understand it. The following scenes see the girl trying to understand the Moon using a telescope, at the same time as mankind creates new tools to study the Moon and the universe in general. The last frames are of an astronaut standing on the Moon and gazing towards the Earth, symbolizing the culmination of scientific progress. Everything – from the curiosity of the girl to the ingenuity of Man – led to a change of perspective. This is the essence of science.

 

Design choices

We decided to employ darker colours in the background, evocative of night time but also of mystery, going hand-in-hand with the curiosity of the girl.

The characters and items used had a deliberately cartoony look to make the poster more vivid and eye-catching.

The main elements of our design were the girl/astronaut and the Moon/Earth. As such, we positioned them according to the rule of thirds, as well as forming a diagonal between these elements, directing the viewer’s attention to the Moon/Earth.

The tools appear in an increasing order of complexity (telescope < satellite < rocket), signifying the escalation of scientific progress.

The music, created specifically for this project, aims to further create a sense of wonder and awe for the mysteries of our world.

The slogan appears at the end, driving the point home: with science, we can expand our knowledge and change our perspective. The lettering is strong while maintaining the cartoony feel of the poster. Emphasis is given to the word “change” as that is a core element of the essence of science, in our view.
